Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. Franklin County Criminal History does not keep or log those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email or other direct message may be retained as needed to answer it. Messages are kept within the operating team and are not disclosed outside the organization unless disclosure is legally required.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, the server can receive basic technical information about the visit:
- Page-view dates, times, and visit duration
- Browser type and version
- Device category and operating system
- The pages viewed during a visit
- A referring website, when one is supplied
- The device's assigned IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files saved on a device. They help measure page traffic, common navigation paths, and where visits end. Analytics services combine that information into site-level reports. A browser can block or remove cookies, although doing so may change how some features work.

No Criminal-Record Data on File
Franklin County Criminal History does not compile, store, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It provides general directions to the Franklin County Sheriff's Department, the appropriate New York courts, DCJS, and the New York State Sex Offender Registry. Visitor information is not assembled into a third-party record or consumer report. This site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. Data submitted to one of those tools is governed by that company's privacy policy, retention rules, and disclosure practices. Those practices are beyond this site's control, so review the provider's terms before running a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to the Franklin County government, court portals, New York agencies, legal resources, or private search services. Once a visitor follows an external link, the destination's privacy policy controls the visit. Check that policy before providing personal data.
An advertising provider may use its own systems to track activity across websites and select ads. That tracking is governed by the provider.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be available to:
- Analytics vendors measuring site use and performance
- Search partners receiving a query submitted to their tool
- Advertising networks serving content on the pages
- A government or law-enforcement body acting under a valid legal demand
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, commonly used security measures protect information received by the site. No internet service can guarantee perfect security, however, and the site cannot promise that an unauthorized access event will never occur.
Users Under 18
The service is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone younger than 18. If information from a minor is identified, a deletion request may be made.
Your Data Rights
Applicable law may provide further rights. New York's Freedom of Information Law, Public Officers Law Article 6, governs requests to public agencies, while Executive Law § 837 limits dissemination of state criminal-history information. Those laws do not turn this private site into a government records custodian. For information held here, a visitor may:
- Request deletion of personal data where applicable
- Ask for access to personal information held about the visitor
- Request correction of inaccurate information
- Object to certain processing where the law provides that choice
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised. A replacement takes effect when it is posted here, and the date below will be changed to identify the current version.
